Nature learning for kids and families
on the farm
Children need opportunities to play and create in nature... their futures depend on it.
At Sweet Tomatoes Learning Center our students grow academically, socially and emotionally while exploring their world. We believe students learn best through place-based, inquiry-focused projects and games that take them outside, into the wild, around other living beings, and beyond the state learning standards.
Sweet Tomatoes is located in a beautiful farm environment and offers advanced learning that is individualized for each child including components of animal care, hiking, center activities, free time with outdoor play, games and music, and more! Why nature-based learning? See the article by Director Kathleen Casper Reed at The Gifted in the Wild: The benefits of nature-based exploration for gifted learners (sengifted.org) We are excited to be in our farmhouse in Maine finally, after running our Sweet Tomatoes Learning Center in Washington State recently. You can check out our WA site by reading about our adventures in the local newspaper: Sweet Tomatoes Learning Center offers multi-age, hands-on schooling option in Lewis County | The Daily Chronicle (chronline.com) Sweet Tomatoes Learning Center offers a multi-age, hands-on enrichment program for students ages 4-10 years through our 1-day or 3-day a week gifted education, nature-based program. Some of the unique benefits from joining us at Sweet Tomatoes:
Gifted education- Sweet Tomatoes provides in-depth studies and opportunities for all students, including advanced opportunities to support gifted preschoolers and school-aged homeschoolers. (We admit students per parent/teacher recommendations, not testing.) Animal science/care adventures- We have a farm with animals including horses, mini horses, ponies, cats, dogs, chickens and more. Students learn the science, art and practical methods of caring for, improving, and managing livestock and companion animals. Small class sizes- Sweet Tomatoes has limited enrollment so classes are small, and students have more one-on-one attention and support. Education that isn't schooling- We provide educational experiences through hands-on activities and fun. Students set their own goals and pick their projects within an environment that is set up for them to learn. Place-based focus and nature arts and crafts- learning about the land and inhabitants, the people who historically have lived in our region and how they used the land, and how we impact the world around us. Use art to express yourself in multiple ways. |
